The Homesman
The subject matter of this movie is way different than we’re used to. It covers suicide, insanity, abusive marriage and female nudity, which in my opinion intrigued the hell out of me!

Having no idea what I was in for I decided to watch this and quickly found out that this was a film unlike any others. It captured my interests and personally I can’t see why the public gave it such a low rating.
Pace in the beginning of the film is somewhat slow, but that’s because they are setting the tone for what homesteading in the western frontier on the treeless prairie, living in sod houses is all about.
Homesteading is hard and demanding with the nearest neighbor many miles away. Unfortunately It drove those without an iron will to insanity.
This is not a shoot-um-up western, however it is about the history of the frontier and day to day fight for survival.
Its a great film, expertly acted and wonderfully scripted. I’ve never really liked Hillary Swank, but I can honestly say she gave an incredible performance. Then there’s Tommy Lee Jones and his curmudgeon self.
This film is a tragedy, which might deter some viewers due to its shocking and attention-grabbing scenes. These scenes, however, vividly depict a bygone era of hardship and mortality.
